The greatest patriots our nation has are the men and women who serve in our U.S. Armed Forces. Today, May 20, is the day that has been set aside to honor those who are currently serving in military service.
The men and women in the United States Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air Force and Space Force, including National Guard services are trained and ready to put their lives on the line in order to protect and defend our country. To say that they put their lives on the line for us is not an overstatement. Unfortunately, every year, even in peacetime, some do lose their lives in service to the United States.
There have been times when citizens have scorned those who serve because of decisions that the civilian (political) leaders of the military make. These men and women do not serve a political ideology. They serve to ensure freedom for all of our citizens so that we may strive to live the ideals that our founders established as the foundation of the country. Even if anyone, of any political bent should stray from those ideals, the proud armed forces should never be blamed.
Thank you to those who volunteer to be our protectors. We honor you, we respect you and we love you for what you are doing.
