LET’S STOP THE HATEFUL RHETORIC
I feel as strongly as most people do about issues of the day. However, I am saddened by the divisiveness and the extreme rhetoric that is reaching a crescendo in our nation. I feel that the citizens of the United States are aligned in a circular firing squad, ready to shoot. Many people appear to, according to their language, hate others who have a different view than they do. Many in the media seem to have taken sides and failed to report objectively on many stories.
One thing is certain. Wherever there are two people, on some topics they will disagree. Both may consider themselves patriots. Both may have a strong values basis for their opinion. They may feel that the issue is of great importance. This will never change. This is why I think that our Constitution is the best governing document in the history of the world. These issues can be decided upon through the people’s representatives in the halls of government.
Many will be localized within different states and those states don’t always have to handle things the same way.
It is important, however, that we never come to consider one another the enemy. I’m afraid that we may already be there. We have enemies from outside who are feeding the frenzy. China’s use of Tik Tok and other social media posts is influencing our citizens without them even knowing it.
In my writing, I consciously try to avoid pushing any political agenda. While characters in my books may have political views, they will be varied, and a person’s political views will not make them a hero or a villain. Instead, I will write about the human condition.
People who hold passionately to beliefs are often tempted to step over the line of ethics, legality, and even morality for what they believe to be a noble cause.
These people may be on the right or the left, politically. The Wayward Patriot series follows these people and lays out the consequences of their actions. The books are fiction and are not intended to point to any actual events. Hopefully, however, people who read them will come away with some things to ponder relating to our country and our politics.
